Meet Tyler Coleson: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Four Seasons Pest Control

At Four Seasons Pest Control, our success comes from the hard work and dedication of our team. Every day, our technicians and staff work tirelessly to keep homes and businesses in the Outer Banks, NC, and Tidewater, VA pest-free.

Today, we’re excited to introduce Tyler, a key member of our team who plays a crucial role in delivering top-notch pest control services. Whether tackling rodent control, termite inspections or general pest control, Tyler brings expertise, passion, and a commitment to customer satisfaction.

In this interview, he shares some fun facts about himself as well as insights about what it’s like working in pest control, common pest challenges in our region, and expert tips for homeowners looking to stay pest-free.

What is your favorite part of the job?

This is a people business, and I love taking care of our customers and building strong relationships. Helping people feel comfortable and pest-free in their own homes is truly rewarding. Whether it’s preventing termite damage, eliminating a stubborn ant infestation, or handling a rodent issue, I enjoy knowing that my work makes a difference in our community.

What is the most challenging part of the job?

That would have to be dealing with traffic in between appointments! While our office team does a great job scheduling and allowing us time for travel, working in Virginia, especially around the Tidewater area, means navigating some heavy traffic. Despite the challenge, I always strive to be on time and provide the best service possible.

How long have you been with Four Seasons Pest Control?

I’ve been with Four Seasons Pest Control for five years. I took a brief break for about nine months, during which I worked at the Suffolk prison to try something new. However, I missed my customers—and of course, Tommy and Sarah—so I decided to return. It’s great to be back serving the Outer Banks and Tidewater communities again!

Tell us a Fun Fact About Yourself?

For those who don’t know, I’m Italian and have some heritage in the British monarchy! On top of that, I have two energetic huskies that keep me on my toes

Rapid-Fire: Would You Rather?

We thought it would be fun to ask some ‘Would You Rather’ questions to get to know Tyler a little better!

A Home-Cooked Meal or go out to a Restaurant to eat?

I’d rather eat out at a restaurant! I do most of the cooking at home, so it’s nice to take a break and enjoy a meal prepared by someone else.

The Beach or the Mountains?

Definitely the beach! I love the coast and often visit Myrtle Beach, South Carolina whenever I get the chance.

Play Video Games or Watch Netflix?

I’d go with video games—especially shooting games! They keep me engaged and entertained.

Work in the Winter Cold or the Summer Heat?

I prefer working in the winter cold! The heat can be brutal, especially in the peak of summer when temperatures climb in the Outer Banks and Tidewater regions.

Deal with a Large Cockroach Infestation in a Kitchen or a Small Rodent Infestation in an Attic?

I’d rather handle rodents in an attic! They’re tricky to deal with because they’re incredibly smart, and you have to think outside the box to get rid of them. The challenge makes it interesting!

Identify a new Unknown Pest Species in a Home or Deal with Recurring Pest Problems in a Familiar Location?

I’d love to identify a new pest species! It would be cool to name it something like ‘Tyler Pincher Bug’ and be the first to document it.

If you Could be Any Bug, What Would You be?

I’d be a Ctenizidae, a trapdoor spider. I love how they jump out to grab food and quickly retreat into their burrows—kind of like ordering DoorDash!

If you had Three Wishes From a Genie, What Would They be?

1️⃣ Own a private island in the South Pacific with plenty of food, no venomous snakes, and a harbor for my boat.

2️⃣ Have the perfect boat—not too big, but just right to navigate around my island.

3️⃣ Bring back the Golden Corral in Williamsburg, VA, keeping it open forever with 2003 prices! 😆

What is it Like Working in Pest Control?

It's fun because no two days are ever the same. There’s always something new to learn, whether it's identifying a different type of pest, troubleshooting a tricky infestation, or finding innovative solutions to keep homes and businesses pest-free.

I enjoy the challenges that come with the job—it keeps me engaged and constantly improving my skills. Each situation requires problem-solving and adaptability, which makes the work exciting and rewarding. Plus, helping customers feel more comfortable and protected in their homes is a great feeling!

Common Pest Challenges for our Region?

Ants are definitely one of the most persistent pests we deal with in the Outer Banks and Tidewater areas. Each type presents unique challenges.  The biggest challenge with ants in our region is that they are highly adaptable and can establish colonies both indoors and outdoors. Many DIY treatments only address the surface problem, but the real issue lies in the hidden nests. That’s why professional treatment, along with preventative measures like sealing entry points and eliminating attractants, is the best way to keep them under control.

Any Pest Control Tips you Would Like to Share?

A good tip for dealing with ants is to observe them before taking action. Instead of immediately killing them, take a few moments to watch their movement and see where they’re coming from. This can help identify their entry points and, more importantly, where the colony is located. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a customer call about an ant problem, and when they show me the issue, they instinctively crush the ants before I can assess their behavior. While it’s understandable to want them gone immediately, tracking their trails is key to effective treatment.

Once you identify where they’re entering, you can take steps to seal those gaps, whether it's around windows, doors, or cracks in the foundation. Additionally, following their trail often leads to their food source, which can be a key indicator of why they’re invading in the first place. Removing attractants like crumbs, spills, and standing water can go a long way in preventing further infestations.

For long-term control, baiting is much more effective than just spraying on sight. Spraying can kill some ants on contact, but it doesn’t eliminate the colony. With bait, worker ants carry the product back to the nest, wiping out the entire population at the source. That’s why patience and strategy are crucial when dealing with ants—if you simply kill the ones you see, you might not be solving the bigger problem.
